Year 1
Welcome to Grade 1 at Pearcedale Primary School.
Grade 1 is a very exciting year as the students continue to build on and consolidate their knowledge in all areas of the curriculum.
In Literacy sessions, students will participate in the Little Learners Love Literacy program where they develop their phonemic awareness to apply to reading, writing and spelling. Students begin each day reading their level books to teachers and parent helpers and work on reading their individualised Oxford Word lists.
In Numeracy, students are engaged in hands on and inquiry based activities that encourage them to apply their expanding knowledge to real life number problems. They work collaboratively with their peers to solve problems and practise their mathematical skills.
Wellbeing is a big focus at PPS which is complimented by our weekly Respectful Relationship lessons, where children learn and discuss strategies to ensure equality within our school and the wider community. They do this through fun activities, games and role play.
Students will participate in all the Specialist classes on offer as well as Grade 1 sport. They have the opportunity to attend excursions and lunchtime activity groups designed especially for them.
