Year 3

Welcome to Grade 3 at Pearcedale Primary School.

Grade 3 is an exciting year as students continue to build on their early year skills whilst preparing for new challenges and camp!

In Literacy sessions, students will participate in the SMART Spelling program where they develop their phonemic awareness. In reading, students engage in the Readers Workshop to increase their stamina reading and find ‘just right’ books for them. They also have deep discussions about different texts using the Close Reading program. In Writing, we focus on Narrative, Persuasive, Informative and Recount writing. They focus on adding more details to their writing.

In Numeracy, students take part in hands on and inquiry-based activities. They engage in number talks and discuss different strategies they used to get an answer. Students work collaboratively with their peers to solve problems and practise their mathematical skills.

In Inquiry, students look at the history of early settlers and take part in an excursion to Como House. They also look at social justice in the community and research the different continents.

Wellbeing is a big focus at PPS which is complimented by our weekly Respectful Relationship lessons, where children learn and discuss strategies to ensure equality within our school and the wider community. Students complete this through role playing type tasks.

Students will participate in all the Specialist classes on offer as well as Grade 3 sport.
